NUAS’ Library Group: Open Science Workshops for Library Directors

Workshop: THE ROLES OF LIBRARIES IN CITIZEN SCIENCE

Online on October 7th 2020 at 15:00 – 17:00 (Finnish time)

Citizen Science is an integrated part of Open Science and it is fast emerging as a possible platform for a dialogue between universities and society. A number of European associations such as LERU, YERUN and LIBER recommend that universities create a Single Point of Contact for Citizen Science within universities. In accordance, research libraries could pursue this opportunity.
Citizen Science seeks the inclusion and empowerment for citizens while establishing a dialogue and is based on FAIR data. But what is Citizen Science, exactly? What is the possible roles of libraries? What strategies should we pursue? How do we establish a Single Point of Contact? What are researchers expecting from us?

Based on research data from Denmark, as well as strategic observations from a number of European libraries, this workshop will enable the participants to:

1. Get a clear picture of the multilayered landscape of Citizen Science
2. Get first points towards a strategy and
3. And an outline of services that are in alignment with universities and the needs of researchers.

The goal of the workshop is to ascertain a possible commitment to Citizen Science collaboration.
