NUAS CONFERENCE ON RESPONSIBLE INTERNATIONALISATION 2023

Turku, Finland

27. – 29. november 2023

NUAS Nordic dialogue on responsible university internationalisation in a changing world continues in a conference in Turku, Finland in November 27-29, 2023.

In recent years, international academic cooperation has become increasingly dependent on political, economic, and social contexts. This reinforces concerns for academic cooperation with higher education institutions as well as in talent recruitment and admissions. How are we fairing in the Nordic universities in terms of academic freedom, corruption, legislation, and political systems combined with digital development?

Welcome to the NUAS bench learning conference to discuss the current trends and learn more on the current topics in the field of responsible internationalisation from different perspectives.

Organising committee:

The conference is arranged by two NUAS working groups: Internationalisation and International Admission and Recognition of Qualifications.

ARRIVAL  TO TURKU

Turku Airport (from Stockholm, Riga and Gdansk). There is a direct bus from the airport to the city
centre, which runs about every 20 mins. Tickets cost 3 euros (11 pm 4 am 4 euros) and can be
purchased through the
“Föli” mobile app, as well as with contactless payment on the bus. More
information can be found
here. A taxi ride costs around 25. All taxis accept credit/debit cards.

There are also longdistance coaches from HelsinkiVantaa Airport to Turku which take about 22.5
hours by several operators. The easiest is to plan your journey on the
Matkahuolto website from
Helsinki Airport (Vantaa) to Turku yliopistollinen keskussairaala (University TYKS UHospital),
Turku Tuomiokirkko or Turku bus station. Another option is to travel by train (first on a commuter
train to Pasila, and change in Pasila to Turku Kupittaa). Tickets can be purchased online on the
VR
website
or on the VR App, as well as from the ticket machines on the airport train stations
platform.

Getting to the Conference venue

Publicum is located close to the city centre, within a pleasant 30minute walk (2.0 km).

It is also accessible via public transport from the city centre (Market Square):
Bus P1 leaves from platform B8, Market Square (on Eerikinkatu on the other side from Sokos
Wiklund) to Kasarminkatu, then about 5minswalk.

Bus 220 leaves from platform B9, Market Square to Kyrkvärdsvägen, then about 4minswalk.

followed by an 11minswalk.

. You can also plan your routes in Google Maps or in the FÖLI App. The easiest way to get to
Publicum is nonetheless by foot or by taxi.

Fölläri bikes
are also a very easy and cheap option as well.

FERRY
From Stockholm, you may choose to travel to Turku on a ferry through one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world. Daily connections between Stockholm and Turku are operated by Tallink Silja and Viking Line. The ferry takes about 10 hrs.

From Turku harbour, there is a regular bus to city centre (distance approx. 3 km), bus line no 1 which runs about every 10-20 minutes. Tickets cost 3 euros (11 p.m. – 4 a.m.  4 euros) and can be purchased through the “Föli” mobile app, as well as with contactless payment in the bus. More information can be found here.

TRAIN
Train travel is another convenient way to get to Turku. VR manages the railway network in Finland.
The Turku main railway station is less than a 15-minute walk from the city centre (trains arriving from direction of Tampere), and the Kupittaa station (trains arriving from the direction of Helsinki), located on the east side of the city, about 1.5 km from the conference venue and 2 km from the city centre Market square.
Please note! In August 2022, a track work stopped the train service between Turku Central and Kupittaa for two years, and trains to Helsinki will arrive and depart from the Kupittaa station. You can find the up-to-date information from the link below.

VR: For the next two years Kupittaa is the new Turku
