In the guidelines for research ethics in Norway, it is stated that “both researchers and research institutions should maintain their independence in relation to their principals”. Conflicts of interest in research refers to situations in which financial or other personal considerations may compromise, or have the appearance of compromising the researcher’s professional judgement in conducting or reporting research. If the independence of the researcher or the research institution is questioned, the credibility of the research could be questioned.
The subject for this webinar is therefore examining the different institutional systems available for handling conflicts of interest in research projects.
